Brief Introduction
South Asian communities in the UK have the highest rates of mental health disorders than in any other community but are less likely to seek help compared to other ethnic groups. Also, a significant number of South Asian women experiencing domestic abuse are reluctant to reach out for help.
Their reluctance to reach out for help is due to a number of factors, including stereotypes, taboos, poverty, past negative experiences with services, racism and the culture of explaining their issues through non medical reasons such as black magic.
SKY Positive Minds is a grassroots organisation founded and led by local women from the South Asian community. With a deep understanding of the challenges women face, we have earned the trust of thousands of women we’ve supported since our founding in 2017.
